So it is still holiday, with kids at home and family visit from abroad which is all fun but doesn’t really leave time for work. That is the explanation for the blog silence…..
In another attempt to mix the necessary with the fun, we went to the market (or the shuk as it is called here)! As someone who has not grown up here, going to the market is fun and exotic. Maybe not as much as it was 15 years ago, but still (and especially when it is the market that I used to go to, after just having moved here). I loved going there to speak to the sellers and learning the language 🙂
In recent years farmers markets have become more fashionable and are seen everywhere both here, in Europe and in the US. Those are nice, normally carry local products, organic products but are often a bit pricy. I like these markets a lot and you can find great produce there. I have not yet been doing the organic thing so much, but supporting the local business is something that is very close to my heart.
This market is nothing like that! It is noisy, crowded, dirty and I don’t think it is organic, but it is cheap and definitely an experience. I don’t think that you can really compare between the two types of markets as they are so different. Both are recommendable and worth visiting and most importantly – it is so liberating to step out of the supermarket once in a while.
