Sewing and Other Long Lost Talents

February 6, 2014 By: veronicacomment

When I was about 13 I went to a sewing club activity with a very good friend an afternoon a week. I don’t remember much of what we did but I remember that I enjoyed it. At least I learned how to tread and use the machine which is useful I guess.

I come from a family of women who know their craft. My grandmothers are great at sewing and knitting and my mother, apart from being a very talented and busy doctor, made my wedding dress! So I am just going to pretend that it is in my genes 😉

When I was pregnant with my youngest I bought a sewing machine, but apart from a few Purim costumes and some other projects, it has more or less been lonely in the corner of the storeroom.

As a part of my new-found freedom, I had time to have a day to myself in Tel Aviv and got to buy a few fabrics on the way.  So I decided that now is the time to do something with them so I started with a quite simple top.

From a budgetary point of view, the fabric was NIS 10 (USD 3) so that is quite cheap for a top. On the other hand, as I am out of practise, I spend quite a lot of time on the project. With time, I hope, that I will be more efficient and the result will probably also be more professional looking and then it could be quite worthwhile to make some of my clothes by myself. Most importantly, I really enjoyed it and in the end that is really what matters, right? And if you don’t look too closely, it looks not bad 😉
