Trying out Home Made Ice Cream

May 24, 2015 By: veronicacomment

According to the calendar, summer is officially still not here. But unofficially, it is already quite hot! I am not a big fan of the summer as it gets here. It is simply too hot for me. I blame my Scandinavian upbringing 🙂

Summer means ice cream and ice lollies (or ice pops), but unfortunately the things are not always the most budget friendly things when store bought. For that same reason I bought two sets of plastic molds last summer at the dollar store for a few shekels each. Basically you don’t really need them, plastic cups and ice cream sticks will work just as well. The molds though, can be used again and again and are therefore more environment friendly.

My inspiration is from this Strawberry yoghurt Ice Lolly recipe from Jamie Oliver which I changed a bit.

My recipe for strawberry and banana ice cream (makes 6)

12 strawberries
1 banana
200 ml yoghurt (natural)

I blended all the ingredients in the blender until smooth and poured it into the molds. I placed them in the freezer overnight and that is it!

Total cost: About NIS 5 (US Dollar 1.2)

Verdict: Very tasty and fresh. I might add a bit of honey next time as the kids wanted them a bit sweeter. It is really easy and fun to prepare and what is great about this, is that the possibilities of variations are endless!
