Meat Bourekas (Meat filled pastry)

bourekas1

Cost: About 20 Shekels (about 6 US Dollars)

½ kilo puff pastry (I use store bought)

1 egg yolk

For the filling:

250 g ground beef

½ onion finely chopped

Oil

Salt and pepper

Fry the onion in a pan with a bit of oil until they have softened and browned a bit. Add the meat and cook until done. Add salt and pepper.

Cut out the puff pastry into 2 about A4 sized pieces. Add half of filling to each piece. Place the filling on one side of the piece so that it covers about half (leave about a centimeter on the sides free). Take the side with no filling and fold it over the filling. Crimp the edges with the tines of a fork.

Whisk together the egg yolk and use a pastry brush to brush it onto the surface of each boureka.

Bake in oven – 200 degrees Celsius for about 20 minutes or until the pastry is golden.
