I really don’t plan to, but somehow half my posts end up being about shoes! Oh, well, bear with me because here comes another….
So I have this pair if sandals that I bought on sale last spring. I wore them a lot last summer and they are very comfortable. A few months ago I took them out again when it started to get warm, but I noticed that although the shoes were still in really good shape, the leather had lost most of its color and didn’t really look good anymore.
I remembered back in Tel Aviv, circa 2002, going to the cobbler (shoemaker) to have the heels fixed on a pair of boots. While waiting in line I saw a girl who came in to pick up her former white wedding shoes that had been colored into a nice red. I really liked the idea of that and thought that maybe I could do the same with this pair.
My local cobbler informed me that he doesn’t do coloring as he doesn’t want to take responsibility for the outcome, but he did have the colors for the leather. I chose purple.
The procedure is pretty easy; you clean the leather with a special solution provided with the color and then paint the color on with a small brush. Mine only needed one layer.
Total cost of the kit was NIS 35 (US Dollar 10) – not bad for a new (old pair of shoes)!
So what do you think?
