I have this big white empty wall in my living room. Since moving into the house two years ago, we have had the idea to fill it with shelves, making a space for our rather large book collection. It has been two years and the wall is still empty and as I have come to realize that the shelve project will not happen in the very near future, I have been looking for other ideas to fill the space.
While looking for something easy, fun, creative and cheap to put on my wall for the time being, I found this article on Buzzfeed with a link to this colorful mobile. I already have a thing for colors and circles so what could be more perfect than this?
I didn’t have the materials she uses in the original mobile but as I have a ton of felt in all kind of colors from previous projects I used that instead.
What I used:
Felt in colors
White yarn
Needle and tread
A metal stick
What I did:
From the felt, I cut out a lot of double circles in different sizes and colors. Each double circle I sewed on to the white yearn in such a way that the yarn was in the middle covered by a circle on each side. I randomly attached the circles to the yarn. If you do not want to sew, I am pretty sure you can get a nice result by gluing the circles together.
As I didn’t have a nice stick in wood, I used a metal one, covering it in the same white yarn.
Having finished the treads with the circles, I attached them to a metal rod – making longer treads in the middle and shorter on the side. On the top of the rod I attached another piece of yarn for hanging the mobile on the wall.
And that is that. Sometimes you just need to make a small change to make a big change….
I like it! What do you think?
