This afternoon I sat down to prepare the costume for my eldest. The original plan was to make her a carrot costume but yesterday she changed her mind. Some kids were laughing when she told them what she was dressing up as, so that was the end of that plan. Maybe I could have been persistent and make her go through with it, but in the end I want her to have a fun day and enjoy herself. So if anyone needs a few meters of orange felt, let me know 🙂
After a fast re-think, I found this Gumball Costume on the internet, and to be honest I think it is much better than the carrot. So off to the store, this time for some red felt and a lot of pom-poms!
What I used
½ meter red felt
Some white and black felt
A white t-shirt
About 150 small pom-poms in different colors
White and black sewing thread
Glue
How I did it
This entire costume can be made without to sew and with glue instead but because I don’t entirely trust that glue will hold it all together (and because I like to sew) I did sew most of the costume.
I started out with the skirt, cutting out the size for it of the red felt and a white square, and two black ones – one bigger and one smaller as well as the “turning” button and the number.
I sewed the black squares, the “turn” button and the number on to the white square and then the white square on to the skirt.
The shirt I stitched on skirt to the t-shirt and then glued on the pom-poms to the shirt.
Two hours of work and about NIS 40 (USD 10) not including the orange felt!
So, what do you think?
