Getting Organized with a Lego DIY

It is like a never ending story. Trying to get organized, that is. I start somewhere, get it done, and after a while it is again a big mess! I have this dream of a clean, well-organized home, but I guess that that will just never happen. And probably I wouldn’t like it, if it really did.

My seven-year old has a lot of Legos. And by a lot, I mean really a lot. Mainly sponsored by his Denmark based grandparents, and over the years, the collection has really grown, and continues to do so. Which is great!

What is a bit less great, is all the mess that it makes and lately I have been trying to think of ways to get it more organized. Both for his sake and for mine 🙂

I saw this very cool Lego organizing idea on Pinterest and finally got around to recreate it last week.

It is basically one long piece of wood – 1 cm x 2.5 cm and 2.4 meters long that I cut up into three pieces each 80 cm long. I used one old Lego plate and cut off strips with a hobby knife – one knob wide. I glued the Lego plate strips on to the wood using wood glue and painted each piece with acrylic paint to match the color of the Lego plate. Finally, I glued the wood pieces on to the wall, using double-sided heavy duty tape.

All that was left then was to place all the small Lego figures on the wood stripes. He now has them all on a nice display and can easily find the one he needs!

Neat right? Now I just have to organize a ton of the actual Lego pieces in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and we will be all good to go 😉
