This has been a project that has been underway for more than 10 years. His project, not mine. For as long as I can remember dear husband has been talking about making a board out of wine corks. He even collected them for years but once in a while I would “accidentally” throw them away…
Last year I saw one in a restaurant and suddenly I understood – we need one of those! So we went back to collecting the wine corks (which is also a great excuse to drink wine). So yes, we had some wine, but not enough, so I asked a local restaurant to get some of theirs as well.
Since then I have been waiting to do this project and have even gotten so far as to paint an old frame we had lying around. Yesterday, unfortunately, my youngest broke his arm. Apparently it is a bit dangerous going to school, but don’t worry, he is alright – has a cast, but is alright.
So he stayed home today and we decided to do this project; I halved all the corks and he glued them to the frame. Such good teamwork and great use of a sick day.
What we used:
1 frame without the Plexiglas
1 hobby knife and a cutting board
All purpose glue
A lot of wine corks (we used about 160)
How we did it:
With the hobby knife I cut all the wine corks in halves (and I have the blisters to prove it!). We then dipped each half in glue on the flat side and glued it to the board. You can choose any pattern. Let it dry for a few hours and hang. The board can be used for whatever you wish, a message board, picture board or just as a nice decoration on the wall.
Cheers 🙂
