The issue of happiness is something I have spent a lot of thought on and continue to think about, especially when it comes to money and the relation between the two (link to an earlier post on the subject here). It is an interesting subject that I don’t think that we will ever understand fully, but none the less we can always get smarter while trying. Because we all want to be happy, right?
I watched a lecture today by Dan Gilbert on TED about the Surprising science of Happiness. What he shows is that what most of us thinks makes us happy, is often not that. He claims that our brain makes wrong judgments about happiness and that is why that we are very bad judges of our own happiness. He shows that while we tend to think that happiness is something we have to strive for, it is actually something we can create all by ourselves.
Quite a positive message I think; what we think is happiness it not right and we have much more influence on the subject than what we think. So don’t be afraid to makes changes and try new things, because in those new situations and conditions, we will be able to find happiness 🙂
