It is easy to think of the things we are not satisfied with. The things we want more of or less of. To think of the things we do want, like really want, is much harder. If we were asked, what we want the most, most of us would say money, but money is not a goal. Money is a mean to get to those things. If you had the money, what would you do with them?
The hard part about defining what we really want is the ability to set everything else aside, like the “but” that is normally money, time or circumstances. It is important, though, to be able to do that, even for a little while, because what is it that I really want if those things were not in the way?
We have this tendency to just keep going in the existing reality without taking the time to stop and think about it too much. We are raised with the belief that there are things we have to achieve: getting a degree and a career, buying our own apartment or house, going on holiday or buying the latest gadgets and clothes!
Sometimes when we define what it is that we really want, we find that it is nowhere near those things that I mentioned before. Normally, the things that we really want are much less materialistic, like time, love, family, experiences and just being happy!
So I am asking myself (and invite you to do the same): Is what I am doing right now, getting me closer to those things that I really want? If yes, great! If no, maybe it is time to start to make some changes, even small ones, to bring me (and you) closer to those things?
