As most other women, also I, shave my legs on a more or less regular basis . These days, it being winter and all, I have to admit that it is not really something that I put a lot of effort into. Apart from those living with me, nobody gets to see my legs anyways.
So, if I have not cared for the state of my legs for months now, why is it that I care about the state of them in all those other months when they are on public display? Why is it that I shave them? For me? For others? Because it looks better or because that is what is customary in this society?
Don’t be alarmed, this does not mean that I am not going to stop shaving my legs! I will still be doing it, yes for me and yes because of all others and yes because of what is customary. So why am I writing about it here?
Because the subject itself got me thinking; how much thought are we really putting into the things that we do? Why is it that we do what we do? Because of us? Because of other? Traditions, customs or maybe because we think that those are things that others want us to do?
We tend to forget that our actions have consequences and influence us to live our lives a certain way as well as spend our time and money in a certain way as well. So, let’s stop for a second, take a minute to think about what is that we do and why. Are our actions contributing to our purpose, goals and wishes?
I hope this leaves you with some food for thought and that it was not TMI… 😉

I think you do it to conform to a standard western expectation of what is acceptable. Other cultures don’t do it.
Love your blog! Keep up the great work.

Hi Tom, I also think that that is it. It is interesting when you really start thinking about why it is that we do certain things! And thank you so much 🙂
