(Recipe in Hebrew after English)
Pizza is great and we have it for dinner almost every week. The options of the toppings are endless so one pizza is never like the other.
This recipe is for two medium sized pizzas:
Pizza dough-
300 ml of lukewarm water
20g of fresh yeast (dry yeast can also be used)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
500g wheat flour (about 1/3 of this can be rye or whole wheat flour if you wish)
Tomato sauce-
1 can finely chopped tomatoes
1 clove garlic crushed
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ tablespoon dried oregano
Salt and pepper
Toppings of your choice
Fresh mozzarella
Mix yeast in water and add the olive oil. Mix in flour and salt and knead for a few minutes. If needed, add a bit more flour until you have a dough that doesn’t stick. Let stand on counter top for about an hour.
In the meantime you can prepare the tomato sauce: Add olive oil and garlic in small pan and roast until it gets a bit colour. Add tomatoes and spices and heat together for about 5 minutes.
After an hour divide the dough into two, roll each section out thinly and put on a baking sheet. Then add tomato sauce and toppings of your choice. For this pizza I used: mushrooms, salami and I ALWAYS use fresh (preferably buffalo) mozzarella on top – about one big ball per pizza. The kids are more conservative so they just get corn on theirs.
In the end, sprinkle a bit of olive oil on the pizzas and also add a bit of pepper. This makes a big difference!
Bake in 200°C for about 20 minutes and enjoy 🙂
Cost of dish: About 35 shekels depending on the toppings (about 10 Dollars) for two Pizzas.
