I don’t like breakfast – so I made Granola!

January 24, 2015 By: veronicacomment

Since I was a small girl, breakfast has been problematic. I never liked it much, unless it was served to me in a hotel or a nice coffee shop. Give me a cup of coffee and I am happy 🙂

It has been heavily discussed whether or not breakfast is the most important meal of the day. My most important meal of the day is the warm meal that is either lunch or dinner, but still I think that it is important to start the day with something – other than coffee that is….

The rest of my family are not much different. Dear husband and dear daughter are like me, satisfied with next to nothing and even though the little one is hungry in the morning, he mostly likes to eat choco pops and other horrific things like that. Even though I am not a health “freak” even I know that it is not the greatest way to start the day.

So this week I made my own granola. I tried it a few year back – it burned – and I haven’t had the courage to try again. Until now 😉

After a small research on the net, this is what I came up with:
2 cups oat meal
40 grams chopped almonds
2 tablespoons grated coconut
2 tablespoons sunflower seeds
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon vanilla sugar
¼ cup vegetable oil
1 ½ tablespoon honey

Mix everything together in a bowl until the dry ingredients are evenly covered by the honey and oil. Spread it out evenly on a baking sheet and bake for 30-40 minutes at 170 degrees Celsius, turning it over about halfway.

Let is cool and they place in airtight container. Add raisins, dry cranberries or fresh fruit when serving.

The total cost was about NIS 10 (US Dollars 2.5) for the batch.

The verdict: I like it a lot, dear husband hasn’t come around to tasting it yet and the kids? So far they are politely eating it….
