A few years back I started to hear wonders of the group coupon – Buy2, Groupon, etc – all kind of great deals, 50% or more off. So of course I signed up and the mails started coming.
It was great for a while and interesting to see what exciting new deals each day would bring. And of course we bought some stuff. Some of the things where really great, like the office chair we desperately needed and got 50% off (actually really desperately after sitting 10 years in front of the computer on a dining room chair…), the occasional breakfast or dinner, tickets to children attractions and more.
But with time, the amount of e-mails started to bug me. There was one with deals in our area, deals nationwide and also extra special deals. Suddenly I would get about 6-8 mails daily with all kinds of offers and I just couldn’t keep up. So I decided to quit and unsubscribed all of them and it felt great.
I do think that there are some advantages to the coupons. If you are looking for something specific, you can really get a good rate. The thing is that what are the odds that that thing will show up in the coupons? With all the time that it takes to go through it all and all the temptations to buy all kinds of things that we don’t really need, I personally do not think that it is worth it.
So do I miss out? Maybe, but fortunately I have good girlfriends who make sure that I know if there is something really worthwhile to buy 😉
