Cost: About 30 Shekels
5-6 rolls:
2 cups sushi rice
3 cups water
¼ cup rice vinegar
¼ cup sugar
½ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Nori sheets
100 grams smoked salmon
1 avocado in strips
1 carrot in strips
1 cucumber in strips
In a pot add the rice and the water and cook for about 20 minutes until all the water has absorbed. In a small pan add the vinegar, sugar, salt and oil and heat it up until all the sugar has resolved. Let it cool a bit and then mix it with the cooked rice.
To make the sushi rolls use a rolling mat and cover it with plastic wrap. Cover it with the rice in an even layer, about 1 cm high. Place half a nori sheet on top of the rice and then the salmon and vegetables. Any vegetables can be used. If you want the nori on the outside, place it on the mat before the rice.
Using the mat, roll the sushi while adding pressure on it while rolling. Cut up the roll with a sharp knife, each piece about 2 cm thick. Serve with soya sauce, teriyaki sauce and spicy mayonnaise.
Enjoy!
